...a gathering place for angels
"if
everyday was Christmas" If everyday was
Christmas, our hearts would be filled with loving,
giving, caring, sharing, everyday, not just at
Christmas.
The Inn is decorated for Christmas all year. The
Christmas trees enhance the interior decoration of each
room and just seem to belong; as do the angels and other
collections that grace the halls. The house is filled
with everything from antiques and dolls to Christmas
ornaments and Santas. Twenty-five years of collecting
went together as if there had been a master plan.
My name is Darlene and I welcome you to The Angelic Inn
at Ragged Edge!
Enjoy the ambiance of by-gone splendor in this country
Victorian mansion built at the turn of the century. It
was named from the ragged rocks behind the house that
drop 50 feet to the trout stream below. The limestone
hilltop provides the dramatic setting for this
magnificent structure (approx. 18,000 sq. ft.) and
actually forms its very foundation. A circular drive
provides a 6.5 acre panorama of gardens, forest and
creek. It was the residence of Moorhead C. Kennedy, a
stately Victorian man, President of the Cumberland
Valley Railroad and Vice President of the Pennsylvania
Railroad. This showplace marked his place in society. It
is rich in railroad history.
Explore the History section to learn
about the great contributions made to the Cumberland
Valley by this man and his railroad and how M.C. Kennedy
brought his guests to Ragged Edge.

With its heritage painstakingly
restored ...with
antiques to honor the exquisite taste and prosperity of that era...you
are invited to roam the halls and find out what happens when you push
the maid's call button. The patina of aged wood graces every room from
the grand foyer that sets the stage for exquisite Christmas trees and
glittering lights, to the hand-carved chestnut staircase winding to the
third floor with windows overlooking the trout stream and forest. Admire
the spacious grandeur of mahogany walls surrounding you in the living
room and dining room. Feel the presence of that stately Victorian man
who built this masculine structure with such grace and beauty.
Remember the time of the Titanic and
imagine being dressed by your maid or man servant. Visualize greeting
guests in the grand foyer and escorting them to the formal dining room
for a sumptuous meal prepared by your German Cook. No evening would be
complete without a small orchestra and dancing the night away. Furniture
would be moved against the walls and a large ballroom would be filled
with the sound and beauty of the waltz. This was the era, this was the
opulence. If only walls could talk....On occasion our friendly ghost
lets you know he or she is around.
Relax on the wrap-around porch with
railroad arches befitting a railroad magnate, and you. Revel in the
beautiful view and refreshing breeze. Play cards, have a drink, and
visit with other guests. Walk the grounds or jog the country roads and
smell the clean air. By all means make yourself at home!
